| The
SAFEBUS PROGRAM is the formalization
of a community partnership between the
City of Regina Transit Department and
the Regina Police Service.
While
our core function is to operate our
public transportation system, we have
always made ourselves available to
assist any citizen in time of need.
Historically
this has included accident victims,
sick or injured people, lost or frightened
people,
victims of crime, Alzheimer sufferers,
and newcomers or tourists.
Regina
Transit SafeBus provides a safe haven
for anyone who is in need of help.
If you are lost, hurt or in trouble,
flag down a Regina Transit bus, or
get on at any bus stop. Trained transit
personnel have direct 911 access and
can help mobilize the appropriate
community resources to provide assistance.
Parents
are encouraged to teach their children
that they
DO NOT need money to get on
a SafeBus.
If
a child is lost, cold, frightened,
or hurt and requires the assistance
of a Transit SafeBus, they should
stay on the sidewalk and hold their
hand up in the direction of the approaching
bus with the palm facing out. The
operator will recognize this as a
sign of distress and stop to help.
Many
children like to wave at the bus as
it passes by. For this reason, parents
are encouraged to teach their children
the difference between a simple wave,
and a call of distress.
